The artist has modelled the mouth on a that of
venomous snake, not knowing that pythons do not have fangs, just rows of backward facing, needle-sharp teeth.
The background shading of the sky shows the printer's inking ball
shadow rings typical of the period.
It has not
been possible completely to remove this artefact. The above
image shows the full extent of this effect. |
